The final rites of Divit Aulakh, nephew of singer Yo Yo Honey Singh and son of Speed Records owner Dinesh Aulakh, were held at the Model Town cremation ground in Jalandhar on Tuesday. Many well-known names from the Punjabi music and entertainment industry came to pay their last respects to the young man, who died in a road accident on Sunday.
Punjabi industry bids farewell to Divit Aulakh
According to the ANI report, a large crowd gathered at the cremation ground. Singers Gippy Grewal, Babbu Maan, Jazzy B, Amrit Maan and Satinder Sartaaj came forward to shoulder his mortal remains. Preet Harpal and Ranjit Bawa were also present. Yo Yo Honey Singh stood by the grieving family throughout. Divit’s father, Dinesh Aulakh, performed the last rites. His mother was inconsolable and kept calling out to her son, leaving many present, including members of the music fraternity, deeply moved.
How the accident unfolded
Divit reportedly died along with his friend Aarav Talwar in the accident near 3:30 am on Sunday in Jalandhar, Punjab. His phone reportedly had its crash detection feature on, with his mother’s number saved as an emergency contact. An alert with the location was sent to her phone, and she informed the family. Relatives tried calling Divit but got no response, and they learnt about the accident after contacting his friends.
Gurpreet Ghuggi speaks on road safety
Actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi spoke to the media about the family’s loss. He said, “Everyone can express their condolences and head back home. But only the empty houses know what they’re going through. There is no greater injustice than this.”He also questioned the continued loss of lives on roads and called for stricter safety measures, better roads and awareness among young drivers. He said, “The sad part is, how long will all this go on? How long will there be bloodshed on the roads? There’s never any seriousness when it comes to controlling this. There’s nothing about educating kids, fixing the road system, having reflectors on vehicles, or servicing vehicles. We aren’t seeing a system like that yet. Who knows how many lives will be lost like this.”
Political leader offers condolences
BJP leader Sushil Rinku described the incident as extremely unfortunate. Praying for strength for Dinesh Aulakh and his wife, he said such grief was beyond words and that the family could only find the strength to endure it by seeking refuge in Guru Maharaj.
Honey Singh’s emotional post
Earlier, Honey Singh had shared his sorrow on social media. He wrote, “Its dark decade for me Loss of my nephew Is Devastating Bhole nath mehr Mehr Mehr @dineshauluck.”The funeral saw strong support from the Punjabi entertainment industry, with singers, artists and well-wishers standing by the Aulakh family in their hour of grief.
